Getting started

What is Bookfairy?

The toolbox for self-publishers, made by Orbita Media GmbH, a publishing company in Hamburg.

Have the whole book created or take just what you are missing: editing, cover, typesetting, EPUB, blurb, keywords, categories and A+ Content. You pay per book, once.

Can I try it for free?

Yes. With a free account, every tool first shows you a preview from your own book: three cover drafts, the outline and chapter 1, the first 3,000 edited words, the first 10 typeset pages, 5 of 50 keywords.

You only pay to unlock the full result.

Do I need a credit card to sign up?

No. The free account only needs a confirmed email address. You pay in the checkout when you unlock a result.

How often can I use the free preview?

Once per tool, per person and device, with a confirmed email address. Keyword checks are limited to three per day.

Do you publish my book?

No. Bookfairy prepares your files and listing texts; you publish them yourself, for example on Amazon KDP, and keep all rights and royalties. If you want a publisher to take your paperback into bookshops, our sister platform ShelfPublisher does that.

Prices and payment

Is there a subscription?

Yes, but you don't need one. Every tool has a one-off price per book. If you make books regularly, the subscription gives you tokens every month and, depending on the plan, a discount on every tool.

Why do you price by words and not by pages?

Pages only exist after typesetting and depend on trim size, font and spacing.

Words are fixed. That is why longer books are priced in three tiers: S up to 30,000 words, M up to 60,000 and L up to 100,000.

Euro or dollar?

The site shows prices in the currency of its language: US dollars on the English pages, euros on the German and Italian pages.

Each currency has its own prices: a book in tier S costs $58.80490 tokens. Dollar prices are set separately, not the euro figure with a dollar sign, and they exclude sales tax, which the checkout adds where it applies.

You pay with tokens: 1 token = €0.10 or $0.12, and every tool costs the same number of tokens in both currencies. Your account keeps its tokens in one currency.

You choose it in your account settings until your first purchase; after that it stays as it is.

Do prices include VAT?

Dollar prices on the English pages are net: where sales tax or VAT applies, the checkout adds it before you pay. Euro prices on the German and Italian pages include VAT, and business customers can enter their VAT ID in the checkout.

How can I pay?

By card, PayPal, SEPA direct debit, Apple Pay or Google Pay; in Italy also with Satispay. You always get an invoice.

What are tokens, and do I have to buy them?

Tokens are the currency of the author area: every tool costs a fixed number of tokens, always shown with the amount in money next to it. 1 token = $0.12.

Your first purchase goes straight through the checkout, no token pack needed. Packs come with 250, 500, 1,000 and 2,500 tokens; the 1,000 pack adds 100 bonus tokens, the 2,500 pack 350.

Purchased tokens are valid for 36 months; bonus tokens are used first and are never paid out.

How do the book packs work?

A pack of 5 ($235.201,960 tokens) or 10 books ($411.603,430 tokens) gives you that many book projects in tier S, valid for 36 months. An upgrade to M costs $24.00200 tokens, to L $48.00400 tokens.

Can I withdraw or get a refund?

Consumers in the EU have a right of withdrawal. For digital content it ends once we start delivering with your express consent, which you give in the checkout.

That is why the free preview comes first. If a job fails, the reserved amount is released automatically.

Details on the withdrawal page.

Tools and quality

Does the editing replace a traditional edit?

Yes. It checks your entire manuscript, not just spelling: grammar, style, sense and logic, and facts and sources, plus a final proofread.

Every change shows up in a track-changes view where you accept or reject it. For 60,000 words you pay $82.80690 tokens instead of $1,200 to $1,920 for a freelance copy edit alone at Reedsy's 2026 rates.

Who owns the results?

Your manuscript and your inputs stay yours. You may use the results in your own book projects without time limit.

We do not use your texts to train AI unless you explicitly agree, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.

Is AI involved?

Yes. Several tools use AI models, and we label them in the app as the EU AI Act requires.

Results are suggestions that you check before publishing. More on the AI transparency page.

Are the files ready for Amazon KDP?

Cover, interior PDF and EPUB are built for KDP's requirements: trim sizes, bleed, spine width. Order a proof copy before you release the book, as every publisher does.

Where is my data stored?

The platform runs on servers of Hetzner Online in Germany. For AI functions, texts are sent to the model providers named in our privacy policy, only to perform the task.
